Camelot Stud is operated by Paul and Rachel Davidson at Borenore near Orange NSW.
Paul has been involved in competitive horse sports since a young age and competed at his first Sydney Royal at the age of 7. During his junior years, Paul won several State Dressage Titles and also his Riding and Equipment Classes at Sydney Royal. During this time he was coached by National Dressage Judge Joy Charlton and Olympic Dressage Coach Franz Maringer. Paul’s passion from horses came from his mother Barbara’s side of the family who bred ponies and Thoroughbreds at Burrangong near Young. Rachel has a flare for handling the youngstock and gaining their confidence. She is also responsible for the presentation of the team on show day.
Paul's father Ken was born and raised at Bondi. Paul followed in his Dad's footsteps and also represented Australia in Triathlon and has competed overseas in Ocean Swims. Paul's qualifications are in Exercise Prescription and Strength & Conditioning. In 2000 he was awarded Personal Trainer of the Year by the National College of Fitness. The principals that Paul applies to training people he also applies to training horses.
Paul and Rachel both share a passion for gardening and in 2020 were awarded a National Award by the Australian Institute of Horticulture for one of their projects.
Paul had his first horse classified with the Australian Stock Horse Society in 1974. Over the years he has enjoyed great success with regular Champions at Royal and National level including Supreme Champion Stock Horse & Champion Hack at Sydney Royal, Supreme Champion ASH at Canberra Royal, Supreme Hack at the National Show, wins in Dressage at National level and campaigning Grand National quality Hunter horses.
Paul has 3 sons, Brade, Hayden and Hugh. Brade and Hayden are Tradies and Hugh has Degrees in Marketing and Business Management. All 3 boys rode in their younger years as well as playing Rugby and competing in Triathlons. Brade's highlight of his riding career was winning the Juvenile Campdraft at Cumnock on Wards Fletcher. Hayden's highlights were winning the NSW State Futurity with Halycon Hotshot and placing 2nd in the Invitational Open Campdraft at Canberra Royal on Luckenough Baseline. Hugh's memorable quote was "You guys would be nothing without me strapping" !!
